On September 21, 1997, Utah split: 801 pulled back to the Wasatch Front (Salt Lake City, Ogden, Provo), while the rest of the state became 435.
Continued Wasatch Front growth exhausted 801 again. Instead of splitting further, overlay 385 launched in 2008 on the same territory, with mandatory 10-digit dialing following in 2009.
