Why businesses choose a Michigan virtual number
A local Michigan number builds trust before the call connects — and keeps costs at zero.
Higher pickup rates in MI
Michigan residents and businesses are significantly more likely to answer calls from a local area code than out-of-state or toll-free numbers. A local number is the first step to getting the call connected.
Michigan, by the numbers.
Michigan's 1947 map had three area codes: 313 for Detroit and the southeast, 517 for Lansing and central Michigan, and 616 for the western Lower Peninsula, which then included the Upper Peninsula.
In 1961, the Upper Peninsula split off with its own code, 906.
Detroit's suburbs split repeatedly from the 1990s on: 810 from 313 in 1993, then 248 (Oakland County) and 734 (Ann Arbor) in 1997, and Macomb County's 586 in 2001.
On the west side, 616 split twice in 1999 into 231 (northern Lower Peninsula) and 269 (Kalamazoo, Battle Creek). The map was finished in 2002, when 989 split from 517 and 947 overlaid 248.
Area code 906, which covers the entire Upper Peninsula, is one of the largest area codes by geographic size in the country despite serving one of Michigan's smallest populations.
